Update (Wednesday 4:08 PM):

The Cape Coral Police Department has provided additional details regarding the incident, describing it as a fatal outcome of a child drop-off.

According to investigators, the exchange took place at the 1700 block of SE 12th Street. Allegedly, during the exchange, the woman entered the residence and was shot upon exiting by the suspect.

Subsequently, the suspect left the scene with the children in the car and eventually made contact with nearby firefighters, leaving the children in their care.

First responders suspect that the suspect may have been suffering from mental health issues, as he had previously threatened to take his own life.
