CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Marquee Cinemas in Cape Coral now holds a somber memory as the final destination for three teenage girls before a tragic attempted robbery claimed one of their lives.

While spring break draws crowds to local movie theaters, Anslie Hines noted a palpable shift in atmosphere on Monday, despite patrons still frequenting the box office.

“I’ve personally experienced being followed by two teenage boys as I left this same theater,” Hines shared, prompting a reconsideration of nighttime safety in Cape Coral.

“It’s a stark reminder that even in a group, vulnerability persists,” she added.

Residing just a few houses away from where the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Kayla Rincon-Miller occurred, a neighbor expressed heightened unease.

“It’s unsettling. Cape Coral isn’t typically associated with violence,” remarked James Kelly, a resident of 20 years, reflecting on the unprecedented nature of the incident.

“I never imagined such danger on my doorstep. It’s alarming,” he admitted.

As the community grapples with the ongoing search for the perpetrator, the Cape Coral Police Department emphasizes the importance of cooperation in the investigation.

“It’s heartbreaking to see lives lost over trivial matters. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” Hines conveyed, echoing the sentiment of many.
